Cool Thing of the Day: Jean Paul Gaultier for Target

by Katie on March 5, 2010

Must have!

Must have!

It’s official––Target is my favorite store. I mean, what’s not to love? It’s got everything you could ever need all in one easy-to-navigate building; its wares are extremely affordable; and it has the clout to get super famous designers––like Rodarte, Isaac Mizrahi, and Anna Sui –– to take time out of their busy schedules and design a collection exclusively for the Target customer.

The latest high fashion designer to devote his energy and creativity to Target’s “Designer Collaborations” line is renowned French couturier Jean Paul Gaultier. Isn’t it awesome? I love Gaultier’s quirky, avant-garde creations. You may remember some of his designs for Madonna’s concert tours (seriously, who could forget that cone bra?). For his Target debut, Gaultier has drawn inspiration from classic American style and includes allusions to rock ‘n’ roll and old Hollywood glamour in many of his pieces. The collection includes a gorgeous yellow halter dress that’s already calling my name, a cropped motorcycle leather jacket with zipper detail, mesh tattoo-print leggings, a khaki trench coat, and a gingham bustier. There are also these really cool t-shirts with face and eye prints that I’m totally coveting.

I think Target is trying to make me go bankrupt. I’ve barely recovered from my last shopping spree for Rodarte, and now the store is dangling more designer goodies in front of my fashion-hungry face. It’s not fair! I guess it’s time to find more baby-sitting clients. I’ll see you at the store on March 7! Don’t be late or you’ll miss out!
